Tony Rowe has sent us news and a photograph of a New Altar Rail that has been installed in the church.
Stop Loan Sharks - 13th December 2014
Cornwall Council and a number of partner organisations have been alerted to the issue of illegal money lending in South East of Cornwall. The national Stop Loan Sharks team is holding a themed month in January to raise the issue about the impact that loan sharks can have in people's lives.
This Debt and Depression Article gives an example of the effect Loan Sharks can have on people's lives and advice on how to overcome it.
Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth - 6th December 2014
Pillaton Parish Council would be glad to receive comments on the suggestion to celebrate Commonwealth Day in 2016. A letter from Sheryll Murray MP about this can be found in Town Councils & 'Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth'.

Fortunately for us, John and Ruth Stannard have now agreed to take on this role and the 2014-2015 Fixture list has been published. September Rainfall - 1st October 2014
6.5mm of rain in September ensured it was the driest month we have had in the past four years being almost half the previous low of 12mm in April 2011.

The Lost Men of Pillaton (1914-1918) - 10th August 2014
Those present at the WW1 commemorative service ("The Lamps Are Going Out in Pillaton") held in the church on 4th August 2014 would have heard Don King's tribute to the Pillaton men killed in WW1. Don has very kindly provided a slightly revised version of this for all to read - see "The Lost Men of Pillaton".
PLEASE NOTE. Don King and Ann Henderson plan to publish a booklet giving more details about these men and of some of those who returned from the war. They would like to find photographs and personal details of men from the Pillaton and St.Mellion parishes who served in the Great War and are trying to make contact with relations and descendents of their families. If you have any information that you are willing to share, please get in touch using the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of any page.
Tribute to Rose Peter - 6th August 2014
Members of the Pillaton Gardening Club were shocked and saddened by the passing of their Chairman Rose Peter on 2nd July 2014. As a result, several of them have grouped together to produce this Pictorial Tribute.

Churchyard Extension Consecration - 22nd July 2014

Cherry Feast - 13th July 2014
The organisers of the annual St Mellion-with-Pillaton Cherry Feast held on Sunday 13 July were blessed with bright and breezy weather, unlike some years in the recent past. The event held on St Mellion School’s playing field proved to be an enormous success with over 600 people in attendance and in the process raised a magnificent £6,250, easily surpassing last year’s total.

Some More Old Photos - 7th May 2014

Thanks from the Quizmasters - 28 April 2014
A message has been received from the organisers of the successful '1970s and 1980s Quiz' held a few days ago in the village. As you can see in Quiz Thanks Letter, there was an excellent response to this event held in support of two charities, Moorfields Eye Hospital and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Another Photo from Pillaton's Past - 21st April 2014
Dave Joslin has sent us another photograph from the 1950s. This time it is of the pupils at St Mellion County Primary School and probably dates from around 1957. Following the closure of Pillaton's school in the early 1950s, the one in St Mellion became the nearest and logical choice for children from the village to attend, and has continued thus to this day.

Skittles League Meal and Presentations - 12th April 2014
The Skittles Presentation Night was held on Saturday 12th April and was attended by 41 people. As usual a delicious meal was cooked and served by Shirley Floyd ably assisted by Dave.

Old Photos of Pillaton - 23rd March 2014
Many thanks to Dave Joslin, former village resident during the 1950s, who has emailed in two photographs taken in that period. One is of High Kernock as it was when he started living there. The other was taken at the Coronation cricket match between the women and the men of the village (1953). He comments:

The Merry Bellringers - March 2014
At the recent Pillaton ringers' AGM, held in the Weary Friar, Richard Warwick (the Tower Captain) appended to his report an item relating to an incident involving bell ringers here nearly 200 years ago. Handbell Ringers' Success - 15th March 2014

January Rainfall - 2nd February 2014
As if December wasn't wet enough, we had even more rain in January with over 11" recorded. As a result, January quickly supplanted December as the wettest single month we have had in the past three years or so, with 283mm (11.14") of rain. Fortunately, in the main, we have not had local flooding as has been seen in Somerset and other parts of the UK. See the latest rainfall figures for more detail.

Saltash Policing Team Monthly Bulletin - January 2014
The latest Saltash January Policing Bulletin for this area is now out. There is an item on the possible link between cyberstalking and domestic abuse. The information people put on the internet can be used by partners or ex-partners when trying to victimise them. Also a plea to keep a look out for suspicious activity. Someone in the Liskeard and Callington area has been stealing large items such as propane gas bottles and field gates.
December Rainfall - 12th January 2014
December turned out to be the wettest for the last three years (ie. since rainfall records have been kept by Brian Hutfield). Fortunately it was not enough to make 2013 wetter than 2012 although at times it seemed to be trying hard. It ended up by being the wettest single month we have had over that three year span with 261mm (over 10.25") of rain. See the latest rainfall figures for more detail.
